12th March

Tuesday’s Night pennant game started with all team players ready to play – bowls polished, 2nd’s had their score card holder ready and pencils sharpened, 3rd’s had measure’s and chalk ready, rinks had jacks and mats placed at each end.  Unfortunately we had no opposition to play.

Moorabbin were our opposition for the night and their team manager informed her team, that they were playing Edithvale at Elwood Club!  So a quick call from them to Chelsea (which is our home ground) told us they would be at Chelsea within 30-35 mins.  “Okay” we said, “Rock on down”.  Finally the game got underway at 7.40pm.

Chilly conditions saw beanies, scarves, jackets an essential item for the night.  It must have been cold, Greg wasWEARING long pants instead of shorts.  We had 2 winning rinks with a sizable margin and one rink which went down by 4 shots.

Greg, Kaye, Pauline and Peter played well and handled the slick greens and strong breeze.  After the 5th end they won 7 ends in a row with a 6 on the 9th end.  This rink won by 13 shots.

Bobby, Shellie, Sally and Craig shot out to a 22-0 lead with many multiples (two 4’s, two 3’s and one 5).  The opposition finally won an end on the 8th end.  This rink won by 19 shots.

Michael, Diane, Glenys and Rod had some tough competition with the lead changing during the game.  The last 3 ends were won by Moorabbin and this rink went down by 4 shots.

The game finished by 10.15 and many retreated home or inside for a cuppa and a chat.  Many thanks to Peter Sale for being part of the team this season.  He heads back home to England on Monday, but will be back at Edithvale next season.  Well done to all players for great bowling and great sportsmanship towards Moorabbin.

Next week we play Hampton RSL at Hampton Bowls Club.
