Div 2 Section 6:

Edithvale 79 (B Darby 26-23, A Cousens 21-19, G Bourne 11-19, P Woodbridge 21-11) def Berwick 72

The first side ventured out to Berwick, and came home with 16 points and a 7 shot win. Peter Woodbridge’s crew enjoyed a close match early, but added three 3s in a row to open up and then maintain a 10 shot lead. This effort won Peter, Geoff Pearce, Suzanne Webber and Trish Eastwood the Drinks for the Day. They were well supported by Bob Darby’s four who picked up a 6 on the 18th end to win by 3 shots. Alan Cousens’ team trailled 7-11 mid-match, but finished with a 5 on the last end to grab a 2 shot win, while Greg Bourne’s four were in trouble at 6-17, but finished strongly to reduce the deficit to 8 shots. This leaves the first side well placed with two wins and a loss.

Div 2 Section 8:

Edithvale 63 (P Bryant 17-17, E Sellars 17-21, B Overson 14-27, A Benson 15-22) lost to Coatesville 87

The second side hosted Coatesville, recently relegated from Division 1, and lost by 24 shots. Pam Bryant’s four won 12 ends, including the all-important final end, to finish all-square. Eric Sellars’ team started slowly to trail 6-18, but dominated the run home to lose by just 4 shots. Andrew Benson’s crew had a similar experience, reducing a 13 shot deficit to a 7 shot loss, while Barb Overson’s four worked their way back from -15 to -7, before falling away for a 13 shot loss.

Div 4 Section 8:

Edithvale 70 (R Manifold 18-23, C Baskett 23-15, M Bourne 16-29, R Weston 13-18) lost to Berwick 85

The third side also travelled out to Berwick, and came home with an overall 15 shot loss. Claire Baskett’s team led narrowly mid-match, but added a 4 and a 3 in the back end to win by 8 shots. Raie Manifold’s four jumped out of the blocks to lead 11-1, dropped the next 19 shots, but finished strongly to lose by 5 shots. Ray Weston’s crew were in trouble at 7-18, but won the last five ends to reduce the deficit to 5 shots, while Margaret Bourne’s four were well placed mid-match, but dropped numbers in the run home to lose by 13 shots.

Div 5 Section 6:

Edithvale 50 (J Cracknell 12-24, J Bryant 12-28, B Hambridge 13-28, B Turnbull 13-24) lost to Dandenong Club 104

The fourth side had a tough home match against Dandenong Club’s second side, and lost by 54 shots. Bernie Turnbull’s four were all square after 15 ends, but struggled in the run home and lost by 11 shots. John Cracknell’s crew were all square after 11 ends, and lost by 12 shots. Bernie Hambridge’s team started well and won 8 ends in their 15 shot loss, while John Bryant’s four struggled to get hold of the mat in their 16 shot loss.
