Div 2 Section 6

Edithvale 87 (B Morton 19-16, A Cousens 22-15, G Bourne 22-19, P Woodbridge 24-13) def Mulgrave 63

The first side ventured out to Mulgrave seeking to restore some pride, and came home with 18 points and a 24 shot victory. Peter Woodbridge’s crew went on a 19-2 spree mid-match to earn an 11 shot victory. This earned the rink of Peter, Marg Gumbleton, Suzanne Webber and Julie Bennett the Drinks for the Day. They were well supported by Alan Cousens’ four, who recovered from 7-10 by picking up a 5 and a 4 and won by 7 shots. Greg Bourne’s team started slowly to trail 3-7, but a 4 and two 3s saw them win by 3 shots, while Billy Morton’s four scored a 5 on the 16th end to open up a handy lead, and coasted in for a 3 shot win as well. With one round to go, this side has already booked a place in the finals. 

Div 2 Section 8

Edithvale 68 (P Bryant 22-23, B Overson 10-24, G Baskett 25-15, B Grace 11-20) lost to Parkdale 82 

The second side hosted much higher placed Parkdale, and fought the match out valiantly to turn a 41 shot deficit into a 14 shot loss. Glen Baskett’s four were struggling at 7-12, until they picked up a 5 and two 3s in the run home and won by 10 shots. Pam Bryant’s team were similarly struggling at 6-17, and managed to lead after 20 ends before falling short by just 1 shot. Brian Grace’s crew recovered from 3-17 to lose by 9 shots, while Barb Overson’s four lost by 14 shots despite nailing a 5 on the 15th end.

Div 4 Section 8

Edithvale 71 (C Baskett 13-17, P Brain 28-23, N Lewis 16-15, M Bourne 14-20) lost to Cranbourne RSL 75

The third side travelled to Cranbourne RSL and lost a nail-biter by just 4 shots. Peter Brain’s four raced out to a 14-0 lead, and in the latter half picked up two 4s and dropped two 5s to record a 5 shot win. Neil Lewis’ crew had a close match all day and finished up by a solitary shot. Claire Baskett’s team trailled narrowly for most of the match and lost by 4 shots, while Margaret Bourne’s four recovered well from 3-15 to lose by just 6 shots.

Div 5 Section 6

Edithvale 61 (I Thomas 16-25, J Cracknell 19-24, B Hambridge 16-25, B Baird 10-28) lost to Waverley Golf 102

The fourth side hosted Churchill Waverley Golf, but found the opposition too strong and lost by 41 shots. John Cracknell’s four twice played catch-up from 8 shots and 7 shots down and lost by just 5 shots. Ian Thomas’ crew led 11-7 mid-match, but fell away in the run home for a 9 shot loss. Bernie Hambridge’s team led 8-4 early but suffered a similar fate in their 9 shot loss. Bob Baird’s four were in all sorts of trouble at 2-24, but won the next six ends to reduce their loss to 18 shots.
