26th February

My Goodness Me! What an effort by our Edithvale Night pennant players. Firstly most of the team tackled peak traffic getting to St Kilda, then tried to find a park and played against a determined team of players trying to out play us and also “smoke us” out during the game, but GUESS WHAT? WE WON by 2 shots. What a thriller.

On rink no. 3 Greg, Kaye, Doug and Blake lost the first 2 ends, then charged ahead and were 13 shots up after the 12th end, with a magnificent 7 on the 7th end. Their lead was then chiselled away with the opposition winning 4 of the last 5 ends. Our players managed to hold onto their lead and win by 6 shots.

On rink no. 4 with Alan, Diane, Pauline and Rod, the ‘shoe was on the other foot’ with St Kilda surging ahead with a 6 and three 3’s. After the 11th end they were up by 11 shots, then Edithvale won 5 ends on the trot with a fantastic 4, thanks to all. On the 2nd last end we were down by 2 shots and lost the last end by 2 shots, going down overall by 4 shots.

On rink no.5, Bobby, Shellie, Sally and Craig had a close game with the opposition winning the first four ends, then Edithvale won the next four ends and the scores were level 7 all on the 8th end. Then the lead see-sawed with the scores level 15 all on the 15th end. With rink 3 & 4 finished, Edithvale were ahead overall by 2 shots, so the pressure was on to keep the lead. St Kilda won the 16th end by one shot and the lead was reduced to 1 shot. Opposition lead rolled the Jack long, but couldn’t get near it. Craig’s first bowl was short but his second bowl landed behind the Jack and he had shot. Both 2nd’s and 3rd’s were either short or in the ditch. Skips went to the other end to take their shots. After the opposition had his 2 shots and Bobby had one shot, Craig’s bowl was still shot. Bobby made the decision to not bowl his last shot and be happy with a draw on his rink and an overall win to Edithvale by 2 shots!!

Thanks to our Exec Director, Peter Woodbridge and his wife for popping in to watch a couple of ends and to our new mascot (when he is not playing) Peter for coming along to watch and keep the overall score board up to date. Well done to all players for a great win and ‘bowling their socks off’ (I know mine have gone).

Final scores for the night – Greg 23 – 17          Alan 16 – 20      Bobby 16 – 16

EDITHVALE –   55          ST KILDA – 53

Next week we play at Chelsea against Malvern.
