Night Pennant Report – 17th January 2023

Well what a bizarre night for bowls, with all kinds of weather, (sunshine, gusty winds, lightning, torrential rain), delay in play, blackouts and so much more.  The night could have finished on a high with a win, but alas we went down by 13 shots overall.

Tonight’s game was played against Hampton RSL on their home ground. The night started with warm winds and a temperature of 35.7 degrees, which dropped down throughout the game.

Rink 1 with Jim Kavanagh, Sally King, Helen Thomson and Garry Dodge won 8 ends on the night, with five multiples, two 2’s, two 3’s and one brilliant 4.  After winning the first end with a three, this team handled the green (dry and wet) better than the opposition, and by the 10th end had an 11 shot lead.  Finished the game with a four shot victory.  Many thanks to Jim and Garry for filling in tonight.

Rink 2 with Ant Cameron, Diane Cameron, Marika Forras and Colin Buckley won six ends on the night with three multiples, one 2 and two brilliant 4’s.  The game on this rink was fairly tight but the opposition gained the upper hand in the last four ends and we went down by three shots.  Gallant effort by the skip for drawing shot bowl on six ends.

Rink 3 with Craig Jones, Rod Cameron, Shellie Kavanagh and Janienne Woodbridge played against a strong team and although won eight ends all were by a single shot with only one multiple. Although going down by 14 shots, a great effort by all players on this rink

Well done to all players tonight, with two of our players not feeling 100% and trying to player on a soggy synthetic green after the downpour.  It was a very strange feeling, after the rink lights went off promptly at 10.15pm. The last bowl was put down and after the end score was written down……..BANG the lights were turned off.  Everyone managed to pick up their bowls, with a little help from mobile phones with torches, except for one of our players.  So guess whose going back to Hampton RSL to pick up their 2 bowls????

Next week we have a BYE round, so I’m hoping to have a practice game starting at 7pm.  All members are welcome to play.  Next game is at home, on Tuesday 31st January 2023
