NIGHT PENNANT REPORT – TUESDAY

28th Feb 2023

Tonight’s game was played at St Kilda and for some of our players it was a short distance from their work and the others it was an earlier departure to arrive by 6.30pm, hoping to get a car park next to the Club or at least a short walking distance.  I think one of our players had to catch the No. 49 tram from his parking spot to the Club (he just made it time for a quick two end roll up).

Sadly, another loss tonight, with only two rinks having a win, but not enough to cover the losing rink.  The opposition knew their green well, playing short ends when they had the mat, but they struggled with the longer ends, trying to make the distance.

Rink 1 with Ray Weston, Jim Kavanagh, Helen Thompson, Craig Whatman won 10 ends with five multiples, four 2’s, and one fantastic 4.  Took a couple of ends to find their line and length, but when they did they gradually caught up to the opposition by the 9th end.  We continued to win ends, winning five of the last eight ends and a win on this rink by four shots.

Rink 2 with Ant Cameron, Diane Cameron, Marika Forras and Colin Buckley won 11 ends with five multiples (two 2’s, two 3’s and one ‘SUPER’ 6).  A shocking start on this rink as well, dropping a three then a four.  Our skip stood there shaking his head and said we need to focus and take our time on the mat.  Those stern words must have worked, going on a winning streak and by the 11th end the scores were level, nine all.  Winning four of the last six ends (getting a six on the 14th end helped), gave this rink a nine shot win.

Rink 3 with Craig Jones, Rod Cameron, Shellie Kavanagh and Janienne Woodbridge, won 7 ends with two multiples two 3’s.  Tough game on this rink, but our players did their best to stay in the game.  Dropped three 5’s which didn’t help and our two 3’s just wasn’t enough.  Went down by 17 shots.

A great effort by all players tonight, but after tonight’s loss we have dropped to 5th on the ladder, and we need a win next week to stay in the hunt for finals.  Next week is our last home game for the season, with our last game for the season a BYE.  Hope to see some of our members come along to spectate.
