Div 2 Section 6

Edithvale 91 (B Darby 16-21, A Cousens 29-25, G Bourne 17-20, P Woodbridge 29-10) def Waverley Golf 76

The first side ventured out to Churchill/Waverley Golf, and recovered from an early deficit to post a solid 15 shot win. Peter Woodbridge’s crew led 12-9 after 13 ends, but piled on a 5, a 4, and a 3 in the run home to record a 19 shot victory. Alan Cousens’ team snared a 7 on the fourth end, and with the scores level with one end to go, picked up a 4 on the final end. Greg Bourne’s four led early, lost seven ends to trail 7-18, but picked up 8 shots in three ends to reduce the margin to just 3 shots. Bob Darby’s team started slowly and played catch-up all day, but held their deficit to just 5 shots.

Div 2 Section 8

Edithvale 68 (P Bryant 18-19, E Sellars 9-25, B Overson 27-15, G Baskett 14-19) lost to South Oakleigh 78

The second side hosted South Oakleigh’s first team, and fought out the match well for a 10 shot loss. Barb Overson’s four won 15 ends including a 4 and three 3s in a powerful 12 shot win. Pam Bryant’s crew were in trouble at 9-18, but won five ends on the go to reduce the deficit to just one shot. Glen Baskett’s team had a tight scrap, and spent most of their match just behind the opposition, while Eric Sellars’ four started slowly and struggled to get into the match in their 16 shot loss.

Div 4 Section 8

Edithvale 67 (R Manifold 13-29, C Baskett 33-11, M Bourne 13-29, R Weston 8-32) lost to Mordialloc 101

The third side ventured down to Mordialloc for the local derby, but found the going difficult against their second side. Claire Baskett’s four piled on two 5s and a 4 in their dominant 22 shot victory. Margaret Bourne’s team led early but dropped some big numbers mid-match to lose by 16 shots. Raie Manifold’s crew won 11 ends, but also dropped some big numbers and went down by 16 shots, while Ray Weston’s four were well beaten in their 24 shot loss.

Div 5 Section 6

Edithvale 97 (J Cracknell 34-11, B Baird 22-17, B Hambridge 29-12, B Turnbull 12-28) def Narre Warren 68

The fourth side were at home to Narre Warren, and moved up a rung on the ladder after handing them a 29 shot hiding. John Cracknell’s four snared a 6, a 5 and a 4 in their huge 23 shot victory. This win earned the team of John (S), Pauline Bourn, Rae Gibbs and Bill Newman the Drinks for the Day. They were well supported by Bernie Hambridge’s crew, who won 15 ends including a 5 in their 17 shot win. Bob Baird’s team maintained a narrow lead for most of the match and won by 5 shots, while Bernie Turnbull’s four picked up a 5 early, but were then overrun for a 16 shot loss.
