A message from Pam Bryant

MPBR announces a new Wednesday night comp. starting 24 Nov. ‘21.

12 of our members played in the very successful Mornington Peninsula Bowls Region “Women’s Only” competition last year, with one of the 2 sides finishing the season as runners-up.

This is the latest mixed offering from that region with the Northern Section relatively close to us and the practice of using hub venues a real winner.

We play on Wednesday nights 6.30 pm start – 2 games of 8 ends – finish by 8.30 pm.

Some clubs run catering before the games, and others afterwards.

It’s teams of 6, 2 bowl triples. (You need to organize your own team)

We also have two Medley rounds, where players play in singles, pairs and triples.

We are anticipating starting on Wednesday 24 November and there will be 10 rounds.

Clubs likely to compete in the North Section would be Carrum, Chelsea, Frankston, Karingal, Somerville, Mornington and Mornington Civic clubs.

We are looking to grow it over the next couple of seasons, particularly by engaging with local football netball clubs from the Mornington Peninsula Football League.

Players do not need to be registered with BV to play in this competition and we encourage clubs to play some of the social bowlers to give them the feel of playing a team sport and representing a club.

Games are played at hub venues, similar to the Women’s Only competition from earlier in the year.

“In the Twilight League we use 11 points an end. Scored the same as 100 up , plus the best lead’s bowl gets another point. (that’s 4 points for the closest bowl, 3 for next, 2 then 1 +1 for the lead’s closet after the leads have bowled their 4.)

We have found that the players love the scoring system. The lead players have a bit more to play for, and it becomes a real team game with more bowls scoring points and keeps a higher level of interest.

The first week we played it , players were a bit confused, but they got in the second week, and we get really good feedback about it.

It also adds variety to the different formats offered. Since we started this two years ago, a number of clubs have tried it with their own social bowls.”

Best regards
